Privacy Policy
Edmonton Top Law is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal information. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information in accordance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and our professional obligations under the Law Society of Alberta.

1. Who we are
Edmonton Top Law (operating as Majd Mouzaffar Professional Corporation) is a law firm located at Scotia Place, Tower 3, #239 – 10072 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this policy mean Edmonton Top Law. References to "you" or "your" mean visitors to our website, prospective clients, and existing clients.
2. What personal information we collect
We collect personal information in two ways:
Information you provide directly
- Contact details (name, email address, phone number) when you submit a form, request a consultation, or contact us by email or phone.
- Details about your legal matter that you choose to share with us when requesting a consultation or case review.
- Payment information when you pay an invoice online (processed through a third-party payment processor — we do not store credit card details on our servers).
- Communications you send to us through the website, email, or other means.
Information collected automatically
- Technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and referring URL.
- Information about how you use the website (pages visited, time spent, links clicked) collected through standard server logs and any analytics tools we use.
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 7 below).
3. Why we collect personal information
We collect personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances. Specifically:
- To respond to your inquiries and consultation requests.
- To assess whether your matter is appropriate for our firm.
- To provide legal services to existing clients.
- To process payments for legal services rendered.
- To send you communications you have asked to receive.
- To operate, maintain, and improve our website.
- To comply with applicable laws, court orders, and professional regulatory obligations.
4. Consent
By submitting a form on our website or otherwise providing personal information to us, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of that information for the purposes described in this policy. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and on reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer using the details in Section 13.
Submitting a form on this website does not create a solicitor-client relationship between you and Edmonton Top Law. A solicitor-client relationship is only established once we have accepted your matter and signed a written retainer agreement.
5. How we use and disclose personal information
We use personal information only for the purposes described in Section 3, and we limit access within the firm to those who require it. We do not sell or rent personal information to third parties.
We may disclose personal information in limited circumstances:
- To service providers who help us operate our website, host our forms, send communications, or process payments — only to the extent necessary, and bound by confidentiality obligations.
- To other professionals (such as opposing counsel, courts, expert witnesses, or co-counsel) where required in connection with our legal services and authorized by the client.
- Where required by law, court order, or the rules of the Law Society of Alberta.
- To protect our legal interests, enforce our agreements, or in connection with the sale or transfer of our firm.
As licensed lawyers, we are bound by professional obligations of confidentiality and solicitor-client privilege with respect to information received in the course of a solicitor-client relationship. These obligations are stricter than this policy and apply in addition to it.
6. Third-party services we use
Our website relies on the following third-party services that may receive personal information when you interact with our site:
- Netlify (US) — hosting and form submission processing for our consultation and contact forms.
- Google Fonts — typography served from Google's content delivery network.
- Stripe (US) — payment processing if you pay an invoice online (when this feature is enabled). We do not store full payment card data.
Some of these providers are based outside Canada, which means personal information you submit may be transferred to, stored in, or accessed from another country. By submitting information through our website, you consent to this transfer. Information transferred outside of Canada may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.
7. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses essential cookies necessary for the site to function. We may also use cookies and similar tools to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the website may not function as intended if you do.
8. How we protect personal information
We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification. These include encrypted transmission of form data (HTTPS), restricted access within the firm, secure file storage, and contractual safeguards with our service providers. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. How long we keep personal information
We retain personal information only as long as needed to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and to meet our legal, professional, and regulatory obligations. Records of a solicitor-client matter are typically retained in accordance with Law Society of Alberta retention guidelines. Personal information submitted through forms for consultation requests that do not result in a retainer is retained for a reasonable period and then securely destroyed or de-identified.
10. Your rights
Under Alberta's PIPA and federal PIPEDA, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Withdraw your consent to our use of your personal information (subject to legal and contractual restrictions).
- Request information about how we have used or disclosed your personal information.
- Make a complaint about our handling of your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer (see Section 13). We will respond to your request within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
11. Confidential information sent through the website
Please do not send confidential or time-sensitive information through our website until a solicitor-client relationship has been established. Information you submit through our consultation or contact forms is not protected by solicitor-client privilege unless and until we have agreed to act for you. If your matter is urgent, call our office directly at 780-471-7133.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the most recent changes were made. Material changes will be reflected on this page. Your continued use of our website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
